Wiskus Wins Another B1G Award

Fresh off earning a spot on the USA Gymnastics Senior National Team, Shane Wiskus has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

This is the fourth time that Wiskus has earned a B1G Freshman of the Week plaudit. He also has won B1G Gymnast of the Week once.

Wiskus competed at the two-day Winter Cup Challenge hosted by USA Gymnastics this past weekend. He took ninth place on the all-around against the best in the country with a 162.900.

Wiskus took four top-six finishes at the Winter Cup. His top performance came on floor. He tied for second with a two-day total of 28.550. After notching a 14.550 on day one, he scored a 14.000 on day two.

A combined high bar total of 27.400 (14.100, 13.250) gave him a fourth place finish on the event. The Spring Park, Minn. native finished with a 13.800 on p-bars on day two. He took fifth on the event with a 27.800 two-day total. His 26.800 two-day total on still rings was good for a sixth place finish. He also greatly improved on vault. After a 13.000 on day one, he posted a 14.150 on day two for a 27.150 two-day total on the event.

Wiskus will be one of 12 members to represent the Senior National Team through the 2018 U.S. Gymnastics Championships in Boston, Aug. 16-19, according to usagym.org.
