Sammy Walker Named Mr. Hockey

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Signed Gopher Hockey prospect Sammy Walker was named the 34th recipient the annual Mr. Hockey Award on Sunday as the top outstanding senior high school boy's hockey player in the state of Minnesota.
A senior captain for Edina High School this season, Walker led the Hornets to a third-place finish in the 2018 MSHSL Class AA State Tournament and earned all-tournament team honors. He was previously chosen as the Star Tribune's Metro Player of the Year.
Walker is the 23rd Gopher Hockey prospect to be named Mr. Hockey, joining Casey Mittelstadt, Justin Kloos, Kyle Rau, Nick Bjugstad, Nick Leddy, Aaron Ness, David Fischer, Gino Guyer, Paul Martin, Jeff Taffe, John Pohl, Aaron Miskovich, Dave Spehar, Erik Rasmussen, Mike Crowley, Nick Checco, Brian Bonin, Darby Hendrickson, Joe Dziedzic, Trent Klatt, Larry Olimb and Tom Chorske.
The forward was selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the seventh round (200th overall) of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.
The Mr. Hockey Award is given to the outstanding senior high school boys' hockey player in the state of Minnesota and is selected by a panel of National Hockey League Scouts, Junior Scouts/Coaches and selected media members from around the state.
