Gophers Tie For 11th at Schenkel Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota men's golf team finished in a tie for 11th after three days of competition at the Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, Ga. Senior Riley Johnson and freshman Angus Flanagan finished with the highest scores on the team as each finished tied for 43rd.
In the third round, Minnesota scored a 290, putting the final team score at 867. The +3 performance for the tournament tied with UAB, was just one stroke behind Iowa's 10th place finish and two behind East Tennessee State. After leading after each of the first two days, Vanderbilt won the tournament, scoring a 29-under 835.
Johnson posted his strongest round of the tournament with a a three-under 69. He had five birdies, including three in a row on the back nine. He also had an eagle on hole 18, the same hole on which Flanagan eagled on Saturday. He finished in a tie for 43rd.
Like Johnson, Flanagan finished in a tie for 43rd. He went +2 in the third round with a score of 74, putting his total score at 218.
Senior Rúnar Arnorsson finished the day with a three-over round of 75. He finished in a tie for 48th place. His total score of 219 was his lowest score since September.
Sophomore Thomas Longbella finished second on the team in the third round with a score of 73, which put him at +4 for the tournament, finishing in a tie for 52nd. Senior Charlie Duensing carded a 78 over his final 18 holes, putting him in a tie for 64th.
Theo Humphrey of Vanderbilt won the individual competition with an overall score of 203, 13 below par.
The Gophers will be back in action at The Goodwin on Thursday, March 29, in Palo Alto, Calif.
