Johnson Signs ATO with Reign

MINNEAPOLIS - Gopher Hockey senior defenseman Steve Johnson has signed an amateur tryout contract (ATO) with the Ontario Reign of the American Hockey League. Ontario is the AHL affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, who selected Johnson in the fourth round (120th overall) of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

Johnson will wear No. 2 for the Reign.

A native of Excelsior, Minn., Johnson totaled 40 points (six goals, 34 assists) and 133 blocks in 119 career games with Gopher Hockey. Skating in all 38 games as a senior, Johnson totaled a career high 15 points (three goals, 12 assists). As a member of the 2017-18 Gopher Hockey senior class, Johnson helped Minnesota win three consecutive regular-season conference championships, including a NCAA record sixth-straight overall regular season conference title. Johnson is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection.
