Three Gophers Punch NCAA Ticket at Zone Diving

MINNEAPOLIS - Minnesota diving punched three tickets to the NCAA Championship on day one of the NCAA Zone D Championship meet Monday. The women's NCAA Championship will be held March 14-17 in Columbus, Ohio, with the men's following from March 21-24 in the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.
Sophomore Sarah Bacon punched the Gophers first ticket placing third on the 1-meter board. The Big Ten 1-meter champion advances to her second straight NCAA meet with a 12-dive score of 625.50. Kristen Hayden placed 10th with a combined score of 565.10, earning one of the final two spots in the 1-meter qualification.
Also competing in the finals were Xiao Fu placing 13th (559.80), Mariam Khamis finishing 15th (541.40) and Morgan Justus in 18th (506.45). Beth Etterman placed 29th in the prelims with a score of 242.55.
On the men's side, Nick Yang punched his ticket to the NCAA meet placing eighth with a 12-dive score of 764.55. With only nine 3-meter qualifying spots for Zone D, Alan LeBlang just fell short of qualifying for the NCAA meet early as he placed 10th with a score of 731.35. Jeremy Moser placed 16th in the finals with a score of 668.35.
In the prelims, Maxim Royzen dove to a 20th place finish scoring a 322.40.
NCAA Zone D diving continues March 6 as the Gophers look to qualify more divers for the NCAA Championship meet. The women move over to the 3-meter board, while the men dive from the 1-meter springboard.
