The Minnesota women's golf team moved up three spots on the team leaderboard as the Meadow Club Women's Collegiate concluded on Tuesday. The tournament, which was shortened to two rounds due to frost on Monday, ended with the Gophers in 11th place.
"It was a great tournament and we are witnessing some improvement in the team, which is good to see," said head coach Michele Redman.
Senior Sabrine Garrison continued to lead the way for Minnesota, as she was the top Gopher finisher in a tie for 28th place at 5-over par (74-75-149). One shot back was freshman Joanne Free, who tied for 31st place at 6-over (74-76-150).
Freshman Kate Lillie tied for 52nd at 10-over-par (80-74-154), with classmate Grace Kellar two shots behind in a tie for 64th place (80-76-156). Close behind was junior Muyu Wu, who tied for 70th place (82-75-157).
The Gopher showing the greatest improvement from round-to-round was junior Maggie Heggerston. An individual competitor this week, she shaved eight strokes off her score to tie for 41st place at 8-over-par (80-72-152), her best career tournament finish.
Minnesota's team score dropped eight strokes on the final day as the Gophers finished 11th at 32-over-par (308-300-608). Washington claimed the team title at 3-under-par (283-290-573) while San Francisco's Samantha Gong and Colorado's Brittany Fan shared medalist honors at 4-under par.
The Gophers will be back in action in less than two weeks, traveling to Mesa, Ariz., for the Clover Cup on March 16-18.
