The No. 2 University of Minnesota Gophers will compete at the afternoon session of the NCAA Championship Qualifier on April 20 at 1 p.m.
The Championships Qualifier will be comprised of 12 teams, five all-around competitors (not from a selected team) and five individual event specialists (not from a selected team or have not already been selected in the all-around). There will be two competition sessions in the Championships Qualifier; 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. CT. The Gophers picked to start on floor at this afternoon's championship conference call.
"This is such an exciting moment for Gopher gymnastics," head coach Mike Burns said. "To be ranked No. 2 in the country heading into the Big Dance should provide us with the necessary confidence to go in and attack our performance with great resolve."
The Gophers will be with No. 3 Michigan, No. 6 Stanford, No. 7 Nebraska, No. 10 Navy and No. 11 Air Force in the afternoon session. The top three teams from each session advance to Saturday's team finals.
This is the 17th straight year that Minnesota has advanced to the NCAA Championships. They have advanced to the team finals for the past two years and earned its first top-five finish since 2002 last season.
The Gophers finished the regular season with a 409.463 NQA. They are coming off the Big Ten Championships where three athletes, Tristan Duran, Jalon Stephens and Shane Wiskus, all took podium finishes.
