Wiskus, Burns Earn CGA Recognition

At the annual College Men's Gymnastics NCAA Championships banquet Shane Wiskus was awarded CGA Rookie of the Year and head coach Mike Burns was named the CGA Central Region Coach of the Year.
Burns was given the honor after leading the Gophers to a No. 2 national ranking and the top ranking in the Big Ten. The Gophers had three victories over top-five opponents this season.
The season included seven first place team finishes in the regular season and three individual podium finishes at the Big Ten Championships. The Maroon and Gold compiled 96 podium finishes and 36 event titles this season with Burns at the helm.
Among those 96 podium finishes were 24 attained by Wiskus, who was named both the Big Ten Gymnast and Freshman of the Year. The Spring Park, Minn. native won eight event titles and a third-place finish on high bar at the Big Ten Championships.
In addition, Wiskus won seven Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors and seven CGA Rookie of the Week honors. He is currently ranked second in the all-around in the NCAA. He is also ranked second in the country on floor, where he posted the highest score of the season with a 15.000. He is ranked sixth on parallel bars, ninth on high bar and twelfth on vault.
Wiskus was selected as a member of the USA Senior National Team after taking three top-five finishes at the Winter Cup Challenge in February.
