Fiser Tosses Perfect Game Against Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Exactly four weeks ago sophomore right-hander Amber Fiser tossed her first collegiate no-hitter, 28 days later she threw her first collegiate perfect game needing just 45 pitches to do so. The Minnesota (30-14, 13-3 Big Ten) offense aided Fiser to toss the program's sixth perfect game in a 9-0 five inning victory over Purdue (13-37, 4-13 Big Ten).
"I have to give credit to my defense because I wouldn't have been able to do without them," said Fiser of the perfect performance. "I think we needed this, it's a phenomenal feeling and that's what Gopher softball is all about."
Fiser made quick work of the Purdue offense retiring all 15 Boilermakers she faced. In an hour and 22 minutes the Van Horne, Iowa native struck out six batters while recording five ground outs, three fly outs and a line out.
Junior infielder Allie Arneson started the party for Minnesota, connecting on her first home run of the season in the second frame. The three-run bomb to left center was also the Gophers first second-inning home run of the year.
Returning to the plate in the third, Kendyl Lindaman started out the inning with a double to center to extend her on-base streak to 20 game. Lindaman scored the Gophers fourth run two batters later when Sydney Dwyer sent a shot up the middle.
Arneson found herself in an almost identical situational to the one she was in an inning earlier. A runner and first and second with one out, Arneson belted another three-run home run extending the Gophers lead to 7-0. Arneson became just the second Gopher this season to launch two long balls in game after Lindaman accomplished same feat on March 24 against Northwestern.
MaKenna Partain tallied her fifth triple of the year in the fifth before scoring on a Lindaman sacrifice fly. Adding a ninth run was Danielle Parlich who reached on a single, stole second base, advanced to third on a fielder's choice and scored after Macy Gill stole second.
The shortened game victory is Minnesota's sixth in the last eight games, where they are outscoring their opponents 75-6.
