WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - For the eighth time this season sophomore Amber Fiser tossed a complete game shutout as Minnesota (31-14, 14-3 Big Ten) blanked Purdue (13-38, 4-14 Big Ten) 4-0 Saturday afternoon. At the plate, sophomore MaKenna Partain led the Gophers going 2-for-4 to help Minnesota extend their winning streak to a season-best 11 games.
"We had a close game and I was proud of the composure that our kids kept in every area," said head coach Jamie Trachsel. "It was about putting pressure on getting those runs in the sixth and seventh inning were huge for us."
Partain put the Gophers on the board early connecting on her sixth home run of the year. The two-run shot to right field brought in Kendyl Lindaman who extended her on-base streak to 21 games with a single earlier in the opening frame.
Purdue broke Fiser's streak of 13-straight innings without allowing a base runner as Stephanie Ramsey sent a two-out single up the middle in the fourth. The Boilermakers strung together a pair of two-out singles in the fifth putting a runner in scoring position for the first time in the series, but a ground ball to Danielle Parlich at third stranded the pair.
Minnesota used a little small ball to get the sixth inning going as Dani Wagner laid down a perfect bunt single in front of the plate. Stealing second and then reaching third on a pass ball, Wagner crossed the plate as Erika Rozell recorded a pinch-hit sacrifice fly to give Minnesota a three-run lead.
Parlich added a courtesy run for the Gophers in the seventh with a two-out single up the middle scoring pinch-runner Katelyn Kemmetmueller who ran for Lindaman.
The host Boilermakers challenged Fiser one last time in the final frame putting a pair of runners on base and only one out. The Van Horne, Iowa native closed the door with back-to-back strikeouts preserving the shutout win.
