Gophers Round Out Incoming Freshmen Class

The University of Minnesota announced the addition of four more student-athletes to the class of 2022. The Gophers will have nine incoming freshmen for the 2018-19 season with Tyler Davis, Sergio Fernandez, Jacob Sawyer and Matthew Sullivan joining Ben Eyles, Michael Moran, Garret Kasiski, Michael Moran, David Pochinka and Daniel Yoon.
The nine freshmen will replace 10 outgoing seniors from this year's Minnesota squad that finished second in the nation.
Tyler Davis - Fuzion Gymnastics - Liberty High School
Davis is a native of Kansas City, Mo. He competes for Fuzion Gymnastics and attends Liberty High School. He was a 2018 Region 3 High Bar and Vault Champion and a 2018 state Vault Champion. Sergio Fernandez - TAG USA Gymnastics – Everglades High School – Florida International University
Fernandez is a native of Miramar, Fla. and is originally from Sao Paulo, Brazil. He attended Everglades High School, trained as an elite gymnast with TAG USA Gymnastics, and spent the last year as a student at Florida International University. He was a 2016-2017 Florida state champion, a 2017 Region 8 champion and finished second on high bar and fourth place on floor at the 2016 JO Nationals.Welcome Sergio Fernandez to the #Gophers! Jacob Sawyer – 5280 Gymnastics – Mountain Vista High School
Sawyer is a native of Highlands Ranch, Colo. and attends Mountain Vista High School. He was a five-time national qualifier and took 12th place in the all-around at the 2017 nationals. He also took fourth on pommel horse at the 2017 nationals and is a USA Gymnastics Academic All-American.We have four more incoming freshmen to announce today starting with Jacob Sawyer! Matthew Sullivan - Premier Gymnastics Academy West – Aurora High School
Sullivan is a native of Aurora, Ill. and competes for Premier Gymnastics Academy West. He finished fifth place on pommel horse in back-to-back years at state and is a four-time USA Gymnastics Academic All-American. He also won Premier West's Ryan Durkin Perseverance Award in 2016-17.Welcome to the #Gophers Matthew Sullivan!
