7/18/2018 1:39:00 PM | Baseball

The MLB All-Star Break is here, signifying a perfect time to update on the seasons of those former Gophers who are currently playing professionally. For the most recent update from the start of the season until mid-June, click here.

Austin Athmann (Lakeland Flying Tigers/Tigers A Advanced)
Athmann has been a steady force in the Lakeland line-up, highlighting his last month of action with a 4-for-5 game with three runs scored, a double, and four RBIs against Ft. Myers back on July 1. He had a three-game hitting streak snapped on Sunday. On the season, Athmann is hitting .238 with seven doubles, 16 RBIs, and 15 runs scored.

Micah Coffey (AZL White Sox/White Sox Rookie)
Coffey enters the week with a seven-game hitting streak, scoring three runs and driving in a trio in that span. He struck out just eight times in his last 10 games after 11 strikeouts in five games prior to that stretch. Coffey is hitting .262 with a .368 on-base average, driving in 12 runs and scoring 10 on the young season.

Alec Crawford (Carolina Mudcats/Brewers A Advanced)
Crawford faced just one batter, but got the out he needed for Carolina last Saturday in his last outing, returning from nearly a month on the disabled list. So far this season, he's 1-1 with a 2.77 ERA and two saves out of the bullpen for the Mudcats, striking out 15 in 13.0 innings.

Matt Fiedler (Peoria Chiefs/Cardinals A)
Fiedler called it a career earlier this month, announcing his retirement from baseball. He wrapped up his final game with a 2-for-4 outing and an RBI for Peoria against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Fiedler batted .260 with five doubles, five home runs, 22 RBIs, and 17 runs scored this season, wrapped his career with a .284 average, 11 home runs, 66 RBIs, and 68 runs scored in 143 games over three seasons. Lucas Gilbreath (Asheville Tourists/Rockies A)
Gilbreath made six starts over the past month and lowered his ERA from 5.92 to 5.11 over that span. Gilbreath drew the tough-luck loss in a rain-shortened complete game effort at Lakewood last week, and struck out seven in just 5.0 innings of work on Tuesday. He now has a 4-6 record in 20 games including 15 starts this season.

Brian Glowicki (South Bend Cubs/Cubs A)
Glowicki has made seven appearances out of the bullpen for the Cubs over the past month, and his ERA creeps lower and lower, now 1.28 after 2.0 shutout innings, striking out four against Beloit last time out. He's averaging a strikeout per inning, 43 in 42.1 innings of work. Opponents are batting just .233 in that time.

Jordan Jess (Bradenton Marauders/Pirates A)
Jess continues to work in relief for Bradenton this summer, last appearing on Sunday afternoon, striking out one in 1.1 innings. He has just one appearance over the last month where he did not record at least one strikeout, punching out 37 batters in 32.0 innings so far this season.

Dan Lyons (Long Island Ducks/Atlantic League)
Lyons has been on a tear of late, with seven multi-hit games over the past month, raising his batting average by nearly 40 points. Lyons went 1-for-5 with a double and two runs scored last Saturday on the road at York. He went 2-for-4 with a triple as Long Island defeated New Britain 5-3 on July 4.

Ben Meyer (Miami Marlins)
Meyer has been on a shuttle back-and-forth from AAA as needed since his initial call-up on June 6 but is hopefully in the big leagues to stay. He struck out two in an inning of work on Sunday before the All-Star break as the Marlins knocked off the Phillies 10-5 in Miami. So far, he has a 4.76 ERA in 11.1 innings, striking out seven in his young big league career.

Reggie Meyer (Spokane/Rangers A)
The younger Meyer began his professional career on June 17, making six appearances out of the bullpen so far for Spokane. After a scoreless debut, Meyer allowed a run in 4-of-5 outings, buit did impress with a three-strikeout performance in 1.2 innings of work at Vancouver on July 7.

Dan Motl (Sioux Falls Canaries/American Association)
Motl has been on fire during the month of July, with 10 multi-hit games already this month. He's raises his average by nearly 50 points this month, now at .263 with two home runs, 18 RBIs, and 22 runs on the season.

Luke Pettersen (St. Paul Saints/American Association)
Pettersen's St. Paul Saints career came and went in the last month, but on his own volition: he's decided to hang up the cleats and focus on the next step of his professional life. He went 3-for-22 in nine games for St. Paul, hitting a double and scoring three runs. Jackson Rose (GCL Marlins/Marlins Rookie)Rose made his professional debut on July 5, allowing a run in 1.0 inning of work, but has made two scoreless appearances since, including striking out two in 1.0 inning against the GCL Astros.

D.J Snelten (Norfolk Tides/Orioles AAA)
Snelten went on the disabled list following his last appearance, throwing 0.2 of an inning and suffering a defeat against Gwinnett. Since arriving in Norfolk on June 8, he has a 4.91 ERA and one save.  On the entire season, he's struck out 35 in 36.0 innings of work.

Terrin Vavra (Boise Hawks/Rockies A)
Vavra has taken the momentum of his All-American collegiate season and rolled through his first few weeks of professional baseball, currently hitting .386. His highlight came against Vancouver on July 11, driving in every run in a 6-5 victory including a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the ninth. He has driven in 10 runs in 11 games, scored four runs, and stole three bases. Tom Windle (Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs/Phillies AAA)
Windle has been busy with nine appearances out of the Lehigh Valley bullpen over the last month, but he has also been steady. He hit a batter in two-thirds of an inning last time out, picking up a victory. He has actually earned the win in each of his last three appearances, now 9-3 on the year with a 3.66 ERA in 33 games. He has 39 strikeouts in 39.1 innings pitched.
