Gophers Welcome Transfer Brenton to Roster
8/17/2018 10:12:00 AM | Men's Swimming & Diving
The Minnesota men's swimming and diving team have added Minnesota native Will Brenton to their roster for the 2018-19 season as a sophomore transfer from Arizona State University, Brenton will have three years of eligibility for the Maroon & Gold.
"We are very excited that Will is coming home to Minnesota and we are looking forward to working with him as he continues his athletic and academic career as a Golden Gopher!" said Coach Kelly Kremer.
Brenton, a native of Long Lake, Minnesota, has featured primarily as a backstroke swimmer while also contributing in 50-meter freestyle events during his time with the Sun Devils. Brenton last competed at the Texas Invitational in December, recording a personal best in the 200-Y Back with a mark of 1:49.38.
"In addition to having a phenomenal business school, I chose the University of Minnesota because of the coaching staff's commitment to assist their athletes in becoming not only better swimmers but also their leadership in helping develop the individual as a whole." said Brenton.
A 2017 graduate of Orono High School, Will enjoyed many successes in the pool while being coached by Pete Buecher. Brenton was a three-time conference and section champion for Orono in the 100 back and was a four-time state place winner, including a state title in the 100 back and the 200 medley relay during his senior season. Brenton was also honored as an Academic All-American in 2016 and as an All-American in 2016 and 2017.
