Olympic gold medalist and Gopher alumna Gigi Marvin will spend the 2018-19 season in the NWHL.

MINNEAPOLIS -- University of Minnesota alumna and 2018 Olympic gold medalist Gigi Marvin has signed a contract with the National Women's Hockey League's Boston Pride for the 2018-19 season, the NWHL announced Friday.

"I had a blast playing in the Olympics and I realized right away that I was definitely going to keep playing," Marvin said in a statement issued by the NWHL. "I'm grateful for this opportunity to continue playing the game I love, in Boston with a great team filled with players I love. I think of being back at Warrior Ice Arena, wearing the Pride uniform, and playing in front of so many of the great people I've met in Boston, and I just can't wait to get going. The thing about my teammates with the Pride is, they have so much character."

The 2018-19 season marks Marvin's third year with the Boston Pride. In 2015-16, she was a member of the first team to win the Isobel Cup. In her first two seasons in the NWHL, Marvin had nine goals and 19 assists for 28 points in 36 games. She also won the Clarkson Cup with the CWHL's Boston Blades in 2013. In 2010-11, she was a member of the Minnesota Whitecaps when the team won the WWHL title.

A native of Warroad, Minn., Marvin has represented the U.S. at three Olympics Games, most recently winning gold in 2018 along with taking home silver in 2010 and 2014. She scored a goal in the shootout against Canada in the gold medal game at this year's Olympics, and added two goals and an assist in the tournament. She has also played for the U.S. National Team at seven IIHF World Championships (winning gold five times), and eight Four Nations Cups (winning four times).

In four seasons with the Gophers, Marvin recorded 195 points (87g-108a) in 152 games played. A four-time All-WCHA honoree and two-time Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award finalist, Marvin earned All-America accolades as a junior in 2008. She was named the 2006 WCHA Rookie of the Year and was part of Minnesota's WCHA regular season champion team in 2009. Marvin still ranks ninth in career points and goals and is tied for seventh in career assists among all-time Gophers.

Marvin joins fellow Golden Gopher alumnae Hannah Brandt, Jordyn Burns, Dani Cameranesi, Amanda Kessel, Amanda Leveille, Kate Schipper, and Lee Stecklein in the NWHL for the 2018-19 season. Marvin and the Pride open the season at home against Kessel and the Metropolitan Riveters at 6:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, Oct. 13.
