MINNEAPOLIS – Ten tournaments during the regular season highlight the Minnesota men's golf team's 2018-19 schedule, which was announced Monday. Five tournaments will take place in the fall, while the additional five will be played during the spring before the Big Ten and NCAA Championships.
"Our schedule features many world class golf courses," Director of Men's Golf John Carlson said. "We are grateful for the opportunity to compete against the best teams in collegiate golf each week."
The fall season begins Sept. 9-10 with the 14th annual Gopher Invitational at Windsong Farm Golf Club. Half of the 14-team field competed in last season's NCAA Division I Championship, highlighted by Oklahoma and Texas who were both among the final eight teams to reach the match play quarterfinals. Postseason qualifiers Arkansas, Coastal Carolina, Michigan State, Purdue and San Diego State are also in this year's Gopher Invitational field, along with Charlotte, Iowa, New Mexico, North Carolina State, Utah and Washington.
The Gophers then travel to the Maui Jim Intercollegiate (Sept. 21-23) in Carefree, Ariz., for the second straight season before wrapping up the first month of competition at the Marquette Intercollegiate in Erin, Wis., Sept. 30-Oct. 2.
Minnesota heads out again the very next week for the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate (Oct. 8-9) in Vestavia Hills, Ala., before closing out the fall portion of the schedule at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate (Oct. 22-23) in Dallas.
The spring season starts with the traditional Big Ten Match Play (Feb. 8-9) at Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast, Fla. The Golden Gophers then return to the course March 15-17 at the Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, Ga., and head to Greenville, S.C., for the Furman Intercollegiate the following weekend.
As the calendar turns to April, Minnesota heads to the Big Ten country for the Rutherford Intercollegiate in State College, Pa., April 13-14, while the regular season wraps up at the Hawkeye Invitational, April 20-21.
Postseason play begins with the Big Ten Championship at the Philadelphia Cricket Club in Flourtown, Pa., April 26-28. NCAA Regionals commence at various sites May 14-16, while the NCAA Finals are scheduled for May 24-30 at the Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Minnesota is scheduled to return eight golfers from last year's squad and welcomes incoming freshmen Will Grevlos, Lincoln Johnson and Harry Plowman-Ollington, as well as transfer Noah Rasinski.
