Gophers Set to Host Green Bay and Kansas State

GOPHERS BACK AT HOMEÂ Â Â
The University of Minnesota is back at Maturi Pavilion when it hosts the Gopher Fall Classic, Sept. 13-15. Minnesota plays Green Bay on Thursday, Sept. 13 and Kansas State, Saturday, Sept. 15. Green Bay and Kansas State also play each other in a neutral match Friday at 7 p.m. The match between the Phoenix and Wildcats is free and open to the public. The weekend marks the last of non-conference competition as the Gophers open Big Ten action on Sept. 19 vs. Penn State.Â

IT'S GOOD TO BE HOMEÂ Â Â
The Gophers are in the midst of playing seven non-conference matches in Minneapolis this season, the most since 2002. Not only will Minnesota play seven non-conference matches in Minneapolis, but opens the Big Ten season at home next week as well.Â
LAST WEEKEND RECAP
Minnesota faced two ranked opponents for the first time this season and dropped both matches to No. 18 Oregon and No. 4 Stanford as a part of the Pac-12/Big Ten Challenge in Palo Alto, Calif. The Golden Gophers fell to the Ducks on Friday night, 3-1, and also fell to the Cardinal, 3-1, on Sunday. Alexis Hart had a team-best 27 kills over the two matches, followed by Stephanie Samedy with 26 and Adanna Rollins with 23.Â
ABOUT KANSAS STATEÂ Â Â
Kansas State plays on Tuesday night and enters the week with an 8-1 record. Its only loss of the season came in a three-set decision against Marquette the second week of the season. Kylee Zumach is leading the team with 118 kills, averaging 4.07 kills per set and is hitting .284. Gloria Mutiri follows Zumach with 89 kills (2.87 per set) and is hitting .293. Macy Flowers has a team-high 31 blocks, averaging 1.55 per set. Sarah Dixon has put up 351 assists (averaging 11.70 per set) and Devan Fairfield leads the team with 106 digs (averaging 3.53 per set). As a team, the Wildcats are hitting .266 and average 14.23 kills per set.
ABOUT GREEN BAYÂ Â Â
Green Bay enters the weekend with a 5-5 record. The Phoenix went 2-1 last weekend at the Sycamore Invitational, when it swept Central Michigan and Saint Louis, but fell to Indiana State in five. Taylor Wolf has a team high 170 kills (4.86 per set), 14 blocks and 83 digs so far this season. Alex Zakutney follows with 83 kills, averaging 2.68 per set. Maddie Yoss is averaging 10.57 assists per set with 370 on the season and Vanessa Buman leads the defense with 155 digs. As a team, Green Bay is hitting .216 and averages 13.46 kills and 15.69 digs per set.
ALL-TIME SERIESÂ Â
Minnesota is 1-0 all-time against Green Bay, with the one and only time coming in 2016 when the Phoenix came to Minneapolis for the Diet Coke Classic. Minnesota is 15-3 all-time against Kansas State. Although facing the Wildcats in spring scrimmages the past few years, Minnesota hasn't faced Kansas State during the championship season since 2012.

Minnesota ranks high nationally in a few statistical categories. The Gophers rank fifth in blocks per set (3.04), sixth in hitting percentage (.303) and 11th in kills per set (14.42). Individually, Taylor Morgan ranks sixth nationally in blocks per set as she averages 1.57 per set.
CAREER MARKS
Samantha Seliger-Swenson ranks first among NCAA Division I setters in career assists and assists per set. In her four-year career, she has established 4,676 assists and averages a nation's best 11.81 assists per set.Â

Minnesota volleyball dropped to the No. 7 spot in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). In all, seven Big Ten Conference teams are ranked in the top 25: Nebraska (4), Penn State (5), Wisconsin (6), Minnesota (7), Illinois (8), Purdue (15), and Michigan (19). Michigan State received votes in the opening poll. Two non-conference opponents are also ranked in No. 2 Â Stanford and No. 12 Oregon.Â
