Bethany Hasz has been named the Big Ten Conference Athlete of the Week.

MINNEAPOLIS -- University of Minnesota junior Bethany Hasz has been named the Big Ten Conference Athlete of the Week after finishing as runner-up at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown 5K last week.

Hasz's second place finish led the No. 23 Gophers to a fourth-place team finish in the 24-team meet. The Alexandria, Minn., native covered the 5K course in 17:17 to earn runner-up honors among 216 finishers.

The award marks the first of Hasz's career. An All-Midwest Region and All-Big Ten Second Team honoree last season, Hasz was also named a USTFCCCA All-Academic honoree, Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, and Academic All-Big Ten honoree a year ago.

The last Gopher to collect B1G Women's Athlete of the Week honors was Molly Eastman, who received the award in October 2016 after winning Jack's Twilight Run.

Minnesota returns home to host the 33rd annual Roy Griak Invitational at Les Bolstad Course on Saturday. The Jack Johnson Division I Women's Gold Competition is at 12:15 p.m., and the meet begins with the Suzy Wilson Women's Maroon Competition (Division II and Division III) at 9:30 a.m.
