MINNEAPOLIS – There was no shortage of offense for Minnesota soccer Friday evening as the Gophers (4-3) used three second half goals to defeat North Dakota State (1-3), 4-0. The Gophers were led in scoring by senior forward April Bockin who netted two goals while adding an assist. Sophomore forward Makenzie Langdok netted the Gophers first goal while junior defender Nikki Albrecht scored her first goal of the season. Minnesota outshot the Bison 18-7 during the 90 minute battle.
"In the second half I thought we executed really well," said Head Coach Stefanie Golan. "We were in sync, together with it and a lot of players got to step on the field and play which is always a great way to end non-conference play."
Three goals in the span of two minutes and thirty seconds highlighted the Gophers second half explosion. Bockin put two of those three in the back of the net in a span of 24 seconds. In the early parts of the 54th minute, Molly Fiedler played a perfect lead pass to Bockin as the senior scored her first goal of the season. Moments later Emily Heslin connected the senior duo assisting Bockin's second goal.
The Gophers wasted no time putting in their fourth goal of the match. In the 56th minute, a corner kick by Bockin was placed perfectly to the head of Albrecht who sent it into the netting to give Minnesota their eighth second half goal of the season.
Langdok got the offense rolling for Minnesota, scoring her second collegiate goal in the 18th minute. The Gophers took that 1-0 lead into the break where they led the shot battle 8-3.
Between the posts, starter Maddie Nielsen kept a clean slate with one save in 59 minutes of work. Freshman Ana Aguado saw her first collegiate action collecting two saves in the combined shutout.
Ending the non-conference portion of their schedule on a high note, the Gophers move into Big Ten play by hosting Illinois on Friday, Sept. 14 at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium. Kickoff is set 6 p.m.
