Marshall Collects WCHA Weekly Award

Patti Marshall has been named the WCHA Defense of the Week after Minnesota's series split with Wisconsin.
MINNEAPOLIS -- Junior defense Patti Marshall has been named the WCHA Defenseman of the Week , Powered by GoodWood Hockey, after recording a pair of assists in the No. 2 Golden Gopher women's hockey team's WCHA series split with top-ranked Wisconsin at Ridder Arena last weekend.
Marshall recorded two points on two assists along with three shots on goal and a plus-four plus/minus rating as Minnesota defeated the Badgers 3-1 in game two after falling by a score of 2-1 in game one of the Border Battle. Marshall picked up the second assist on Nicole Schammel's game-tying goal in game one, and she again set up Schammel in game two when she assisted the game-winning goal with her 14th assist of the season.
The Thief River Falls, Minn., native was tied for the scoring lead among WCHA defense with two points, two assists, 1.00 assists per game, and 1.00 points per game over the weekend. Her plus-four rating led WCHA blue-liners in two games over the weekend. Among NCAA defense, Marshall was tied for second with two points.
Marshall also helped the Gophers defense hold the Badgers to just 1.50 goals per game after Wisconsin entered the series averaging 3.91 goals per game, along with helping the Gophers go six-for-seven on the penalty kill against the Badgers.
This week's award marks Marshall's second WCHA weekly award of the season and her third WCHA weekly honor of her career.
Marshall and the Gophers are back on the road this week when Minnesota travels to Columbus, Ohio, for a WCHA series with No. 7 Ohio State. The Gophers and Buckeyes face off at 5:07 p.m. CT Friday and 2:07 p.m. CT Saturday.
