MINNEAPOLIS – Minnesota senior guard Kenisha Bell has been named to the midseason watch list for the 2019 Naismith Women's Defensive Player of the Year Award, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced Friday.

One of 15 players named to the watch list, Bell joined three others from the Big Ten on the list including Maryland's Shakira Austin, Iowa's Megan Gustafson and Purdue's Ae'Rianna Harris.

In addition, Bell was one of just three guards to be recognized along with Lamar's Chastadie Barrs and Kentucky's Taylor Murray. The other 12 players were either forwards or centers.

Bell currently leads the Big Ten in both steals (39) and steals per game (2.05). She's recorded at least one steal in 16 of 19 games this year and has had multiple steals in 12 contests. Her best performance came against Air Force when she had a season-high six thefts.

On the season, she is averaging 18.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game. She ranks fifth nationally and leads the Big Ten with 150 free throw attempts, while ranking seventh in the country and second in the conference with 102 made free throws. Bell also leads the Big Ten in field goal attempts with 305.

Players not on the midseason watch list are still eligible to be selected as award semifinalists, which will be announced in February.
