MINNEAPOLIS – For the second year in a row, Gopher Hockey alum and current Winnipeg Jets captain Blake Wheeler has been selected to participate in the NHL All-Star Game, the league announced this week. The 2019 NHL All-Star Weekend will be hosted by the San Jose Sharks at the SAP Center on Jan. 25-26, 2019.

A native of Plymouth, Minn., Wheeler currently leads the Jets and is tied for eighth in the league with 50 points while his 44 assists rank third in the NHL. The forward, who led Winnipeg to the Western Conference Finals last season, is in his 11th NHL season and has 655 points (228 goals, 427 assists) in 817 career games.

A three-year letter winner with the Gophers (2006-08), Wheeler totaled 96 points (42 goals, 54 assists) in 127 career games. The forward helped Minnesota capture back-to-back WCHA regular-season crowns in 2006 and 2007 while also scoring one of the biggest goals in program history to win the 2007 WCHA Final Five. Wheeler served as an alternate captain in 2007-08 when he earned all-conference honors as the team's leading scorer.
