Minnesota wrapped up this weekend's non-conference series with a 6-2 win on Saturday.
PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The No. 2 Golden Gopher women's hockey team scored four unanswered goals in the third period to earn a 6-2 win over Robert Morris in game two of this weekend's non-conference series on the road at Colonials Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Minnesota (6-0-0, 2-0-0 WCHA) was led by Amy Potomak's three-point effort (2g-1a), and the Gophers received multiple points from Alex Woken (1g-1a), Catie Skaja (1g-1a), and Crystalyn Hengler (2a) in the win. Sydney Scobee made a season-high 31 saves on 33 shots faced as the Maroon & Gold had a 39-33 advantage in shots on goal.
The Gophers surrendered the first goal of the game for the first time this season as Robert Morris (2-2-0, 0-0-0 CHA) got on the board just 2:24 into the game before A. Potomak scored back-to-back goals to give Minnesota the 2-1 lead. The Colonials tied the game with a power-play goal just 1:15 into the third period, but the Gophers opened the floodgates over the final 20 minutes with tallies from Madeline Wethington, Sarah Potomak, Woken, and Skaja.
The teams combined for 26 penalty minutes with Minnesota going 0-for-4 on the power play and 6-for-7 on the penalty kill with one shorthanded goal.Â
