Gophers Fall to Badgers, 3-0

The No. 6 University of Minnesota fell to No. 7 Wisconsin, 3-0, today in Madison, Wis. With the loss, the Golden Gophers are now 11-3 overall and suffered their first loss of the Big Ten season at 5-1. The Badgers improve to 10-4 overall and 6-0 in league action.
Alexis Hart led the Gophers with 10 kills, while Regan Pittman and Adanna Rollins each had seven kills. Pittman also hit .429 with one error in 14 attempts. Bayley McMenimen had 24 assists, while CC McGraw and Rollins each added a team-best nine digs.
Wisconsin held the lead in kills (47), aces (8) and digs (52). Minnesota had 31 kills, one ace, 40 digs and 11.5 blocks to Wisconsin's four. Â
Notable:
It was the Badgers' first win over Minnesota in nine attempts. The last time the Gophers lost to Wisconsin dates back to 2014, also in Madison, Wis. The Gophers are now 52-31 all-time against Wisconsin.

Minnesota is back at home Friday and Saturday when Northwestern and Illinois come to town, Oct. 18 and 19. Both matches are at 7 p.m., at Maturi Pavilion. Friday's match is streamed on BTN +, while Saturday's match is televised on Big Ten Network.

First: Tied at 8-8, Wisconsin went up 12-8 to keep the lead for good en route to a 25-18 win. The Badgers had 12 kills and three aces in the set.
Second: Wisconsin opened up with a 12-7 lead and never looked back. The Badgers added four aces and 13 kills in the set.Â
Third: Despite Minnesota hitting .414 in the set, Wisconsin hit .474 in the third and final set. Trailing 22-14, Minnesota had three kills and three blocks to force the set to 24-20 Badgers as the Gophers fought off two match points, but Wisconsin added its 47th kill for the win. Â
