Men's Gymnastics Releases 2020 Schedule

The University of Minnesota men's gymnastics team unveiled the schedule for its 2020 competition slate on Tuesday.
The Gophers will host four meets at Maturi Pavilion next year and will compete in four Big Ten meets to try and defend their 2019 regular season title. The postseason is highlighted by the Big Ten Championships April 3-4, which Minnesota will host for the first time since 2013.
"I'm always excited when our schedule is released because it means our season is not too far down the road. We're going to have some tough opponents this year and it'll be another barn burner for the Big Ten regular season title," head coach Mike Burns said. "We'll see perennial power Illinois at home in January as well as Ohio State and Nebraska in March on Senior Night. Then we have the distinct honor of hosting the 2020 Big Ten Championships in April. Not sure how it can get any better than that."
The 2020 campaign kicks off with the 53rd annual Alumni Meet, hosted at Maturi Pavilion. The Gophers will try to beat the alumni's 52-year winning streak and get some action in before officially beginning the season the following meet.
Minnesota will open its season at the Rocky Mountain Open on Jan. 11. The meet is hosted by Air Force and it is the second consecutive year that the Gophers will start their schedule in Colorado Springs. Next up is the Windy City Invitational on Jan. 18 in Chicago, Ill., a meet that has become an annual staple for Minnesota.
The Gophers open the Big Ten season at home with a dual meet against Illinois on Jan. 24. The annual John Roethlisberger Iceberg Open will also run at Maturi Pavilion Thursday-Saturday of that week.
Minnesota makes a quick trip to Iowa on Feb. 1 for a tri-meet against Iowa and NIU before returning to the Pav on Feb. 7 to host Washington. It'll be another gymnastics-filled weekend as the Ski-U-Mah meet takes place Feb. 5-7.
The Gophers don't compete at home for another month after that, first heading to Nebraska Feb. 15 to take on the Cornhuskers and Army. The Winter Cup in Las Vegas, Nev. will take place Feb. 20-22 for some Gophers gymnasts before the whole team reunites for a leap day Big Ten dual against Michigan in Ann Arbor on Feb. 29.
Minnesota is back in the Pav for its last regular season home meet on March 13 and will host Ohio State and Nebraska. The Gophers then head to Penn State for a Big Ten battle against the Nittany Lions and Iowa Hawkeyes on March 21. The competition will be the last to count toward Big Ten title contention and will close the regular season.
The Gophers will get home gym advantage for the first time in six seasons for the Big Ten Championships, which will be hosted at Maturi Pavilion April 3-4. The first day of action will be team and all-around competition and event finals will be held on Saturday.
Minnesota will have a week off before taking its second trip of the year to Ann Arbor, Mich. for the NCAA Championships April 17-18. The top three teams out of two sessions on Friday will advance to Saturday's final.
Ticket information and home promotions will be released at a later date. Be sure to follow Gopher Men's Gymnastics on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for updates.
