First Pitch: Kianna Jones

With the leaves changing and season less than four months away it's time to start getting to know the newcomers! "First Pitch" is back for another season. Our second guest is pitcher Kianna Jones from Surrey, BC, Canada. Jones is a member of the Canadian Junior Women's National team. She was a three-time provincial state champion and a two-time national champion with the Surrey Storm.Â
Gopher Sports: How did you decide on Minnesota?
Kianna Jones: When I stepped on campus there was this feeling that I felt and I knew that this was the place for me. Everyone was also so kind and I could see myself growing as not only a player but a person.
GS: What is one thing you want to make sure you do around the cities this year?
KJ: I want to attend as many professional sports games as possible, whether that be baseball, basketball, hockey etc. I would also like to visit some landmarks to learn about what makes Minnesota so great.
GS: How have the interactions with your teammates been going?
KJ: Awesome! All the girls are super friendly and I love spending time and learning from them.
GS: Is there anything the coaches are having you personally work on or the team as a whole?
KJ: Keeping our grades up is something that the coaching staff is really focusing on. They have been giving us goals and even put us into teams so we can compete with each other.
GS: What is it about the game of softball that you love?
KJ: I love always having something to get better in. You are never good enough at anything revolved around the sport of softball to stop working.
GS: What activities do you enjoy outside of softball?
KJ: I love playing volleyball, basketball, and hanging out with friends!
GS: If you could hit a home run off any celebrity who would you choose and why?
KJ: Derek Jeter because I grew up watching him and he is one of the people I look up to the most.
GS: Have you thought about what your walkup song will be this year?
KJ: I am still in the process of selecting my walk-up but I know for sure that I want it to be a pump up jam that makes everyone dance.
GS: You are stuck on an elevator for an entire day but could have any one teammate with you. Who are you choosing and why?
KJ: Hope Brandner: She is so fun and I think she could make the time go by super fast.
