Gophers Finish ITA Central Regional Tournament

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Minnesota women's tennis team finished up the ITA Central Regional with a combined record of 12-13. The Gophers went 4-4 in doubles, and 8-9 in singles. The ITA Central Regional, which runs from Oct. 17-22, is being hosted by the University of Oklahoma.
Minnesota had a strong start on the morning in doubles. River Hart/Juliet Zhang downed Kansas State's combination of Decker/Turko 8-6. They were followed by a win from Tina Kreinis/Tiffany Huber who defeated Missouri's Goldin/Nash 8-2. Both duos advanced to the round of 16, but fell short to pairs from Oklahoma State.
Tiffany Huber was the lone Gopher left in the main draw of singles. She faced the 25th seeded Rosanna Mafei of Kansas State and lost 2-6, 5-7 in a valiant effort. In all, Huber had the best record on the weekend going 4-2.
Notable:
Tiffany Huber advanced the farthest for the maroon and gold. With a combined record of 4-2, she advanced to the round of 32 in singles and the round of 16 in doubles with partner Tina Kreinis.

"This is the time of the season that we get an opportunity to see how the girls compete individually," said head coach Catrina Thompson. "Overall it was a good learning experience for both our new players and an opportunity to see where everyone is at and what we need to continue working on moving forward."
