COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The No. 2 University of Minnesota women's hockey team fell to No. 9 Ohio State by a score of 4-3 at OSU Ice Rink on Friday night. The loss marked the first of the season for the Golden Gophers.

The Gophers had a 36-31 advantage in shots on goal and went one-for-three on the power play while killing off the team's lone penalty in the game.
Ohio State (5-2-2, 3-2-2-0 WCHA) received two goals from Liz Schepers, including the first goal of the game just 1:55 into the opening period and the eventual game-winner when she broke a 3-3 tie with 7:56Â remaining. Andrea Braendli made 33 saves.Â

"Tough result here tonight," head coach Brad Frost said. "Our team played a good third period there, but when you play a good team like Ohio State you have to play a full 60 minutes and unfortunately tonight we weren't able to do that. We'll watch some video and get back after it tomorrow."
Notable
The loss marked Minnesota's first road loss in nearly a year as the Gophers were 15-0-0 in road games dating back to a 4-3 overtime win on the road at St. Cloud State on Nov. 17, 2018. Minnesota's last road loss was a 4-1 decision at Wisconsin on Oct. 28, 2018.
