Halbmaier Earns B1G Weekly Honors

Libby Halbmaier is the Big Ten Conference Athlete of the Week after leading the Gophers at Jack's Twilight Run.
MINNEAPOLIS -- Libby Halbmaier has been named the Big Ten Conference Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week after leading the Golden Gophers at Jack's Twilight Run last Friday.
Halbmaier finished as the women's champion when the University of Minnesota hosted Jack's Twilight Run, an open 6K race, at Les Bolstad Course last week. Halbmaier clocked a career-best 6K time of 21:25 for the win, improving on her previous career best time of 21:36.4 set a year ago at the same meet.
Halbmaier's win marked her first finish as Minnesota's top runner in uniform; it was her second collegiate victory after she won the St. Olaf Invite while competing unattached last season. Jack's Twilight Run marked Halbmaier's third 6K race of the 2019 season, and she has improved in each outing as she posted a time of 22:35.74 at the Blugold Invitational, 22:47.5 in the open race at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational and improved to 21:25 at Jack's Run. A native of Minnetonka, Minn., Halbmaier is Minnesota's first B1G Women's Athlete of the Week this season.
The Golden Gopher cross country squad travels to Columbus, Ohio, for the 2019 Big Ten Conference Cross Country Championships on Sunday.
