Gophers Finish Opening Round at Princess Anne Invitational

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Junior Joanne Free carded her second-lowest round of the season on Friday, leading the Minnesota women's golf team through the first 18 holes of the Princess Anne Invitational, hosted by Old Dominion University at the par-70 Princess Anne Country Club.
Free fired a 2-over-par 72 to tie for 25th after the first round of action. Three strokes back was classmate Kate Lillie, who is tied for 58th at 5-over-par 75. Freshman Grace Curran is tied for 69th place at 7-over-par 77. One stroke behind is sophomore Karen Zhang who is tied for 78th place, while junior Grace Kellar rounded out the lineup in 80th place at 14-over-par.
Chattanooga's Esme Hamilton holds the first round lead by two strokes after an opening-round 65, with Virginia Tech leading the team field by three strokes (276). Minnesota is 15th (302), four shots behind Marshall.
The Princess Anne Invitational continues Saturday with second-round tee times beginning at 8:00 a.m. ET.
