Gophers Beat Rutgers in Four

The No. 7 University of Minnesota volleyball team earned a 3-1 win (25-17, 25-20, 19-25, 25-12) over Rutgers at Maturi Pavilion. The Golden Gophers improve to 10-2 overall and 4-0 in the Big Ten, while Rutgers drops to 6-9 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
 
Minnesota had four players with double-digit kills, led by Regan Pittman with 14. She hit .583 and added four blocks and three digs. Taylor Morgan had 13 kills and four blocks. Adanna Rollins added 12 kills, 12 digs and four blocks. Stephanie Samedy had 10 kills, seven digs, three aces and one block. Alexis Hart offered up nine kills and two blocks. Bayley McMenimen added a double-double when she had 48 assists, 15 digs and also one ace. Rachel Kilkelly had 13 digs and one ace.
 
As a team, Minnesota had 58 kills, 64 digs, nine blocks and hit .266. Rutgers had 51 kills, 56 digs, 13 blocks and hit .207.

- Bayley McMenimen had her third collegiate start and added her second career double-double.

"We were grinding for a while there and a lot of that had to do with Rutgers' nice play," head coach Hugh McCutcheon said. "They had a good performance tonight and I liked how we responded in the fourth set. It seemed appropriate and certainly the execution was a little cleaner there. Happy to get the win."

First Set: Minnesota led from the first point of the set as Morgan paced the Gophers with five kills in six attempts. The Gophers pushed it to set point at 24-16 off a Rollins kill and took the set on a Rutgers attack error.
Second Set: Minnesota went up 2-0 off a 25-20 set win when the Gophers had 15 kills in the second. Tied at 14-14, Hart provided back-to-back kills to give the Gophers the 16-14 lead, which they held through the remainder of the set.
Third Set: Rutgers hit .353 in the third set to Minnesota's .083 to win, 25-19. Tied at 10-10, Rutgers took a 13-11 lead and held the lead through the rest of the set.
Fourth Set: Minnesota responded to the set loss and opened up the fourth with a 10-3 lead in the fourth and never looked back. The Gophers hit its match-best .471 in the set, while they held to .156.
