Gophers Enter Rankings at No. 25

Minnesota is ranked in the Coaches Poll for the first time since 2014
The University of Minnesota football team is ranked No. 25 in the Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports. This is the first time this season that the 5-0 Gophers have been ranked and the first time they have been ranked in the Coaches Poll since Nov. 30, 2014, when they were also No. 25.
The Gophers enter the rankings after a convincing 40-17 win against Illinois on Saturday. Dating back to last season, Minnesota has won seven straight games (Illinois, at Purdue, Georgia Southern, at Fresno State, South Dakota State, vs. Georgia Tech and at Wisconsin), which is tied for the fifth longest winning streak in the nation. The Gophers are one of 16 teams who are undefeated this year.
Minnesota is 5-0 this year, 7-0 in its last seven games, 9-2 in its last 11 games and 17-13 overall under head coach P.J. Fleck. The last time Minnesota started a season 5-0 was 2004. The last time Minnesota won seven straight games were the 2002-03 seasons (won last game of 2002 and first six games of 2003).
Fleck's 17-13 record in his first 30 games is the best for a coach in school history since the legendary Murray Warmath started 19-9-2 from 1954 through the first three games of the 1957 season. Warmath would go on to coach Minnesota for 18 seasons and led Minnesota to a Big Ten championship and national championship in 1960.
