Gophers Women Rise to National No. 18

The Minnesota men’s and women’s cross country teams climbed in the rankings this week.
MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota women's cross country team is ranked No. 18 in the week four edition of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) National Coaches' Poll, the USTFCCCA announced Tuesday.
The women's team placed ninth in the Blue Division of the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational over the weekend. All 12 of Minnesota's athletes recorded career-best 5K times led by Anastasia Korzenowski, who placed 24th individually with a time of 16:49.72 in the 5K. Minnesota's top five runners, made up of Jaycie Thomsen, Abby Kohut-Jackson, Zetta Mason, and Olivia Hummel, all finished among the top 72 overall.
In the USTFCCCA Week Four Regional Rankings, the Gopher women rose to the top place in the Midwest Region rankings while the Gopher men climbed three spots to number five in the region.
The women's team is back in action on Friday, Oct. 18 to race at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational in Madison, Wis., and on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Tori Neubauer Invitational in La Crosse, Wis. Meanwhile, the men's squad will split up to participate in the Pre-National Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind., and the Jim Drews Invitational in Ettrick, Wis., on Saturday, Oct. 19.
