Leadership U Consultant, David Plummer, facilitated a question and answer panel after dinner with the former Gophers who were present. One of the biggest pieces of advice Smith gave to the leadership retreat attendees was, "Remember who you are and whose you are." Smith expressed Leadership U "really sets the current student-athletes apart from what they are already doing at Minnesota. Adding Leadership U is just how to parlay that and transition that in their next leadership phase."

Carol Ann Shudlick Smith was a standout Minnesota basketball player from 1990-94. She led Minnesota to its first NCAA Tournament appearance. She was later named the Wade Trophy recipient her senior year. Since her career at Minnesota, she has been inducted into the "M" Club Hall of Fame and listed as "NCAA Women's Basketball's Finest." Carol Ann earned her bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Minnesota and a master's from Ohio University.
