Gophers Travel to No. 16 Purdue Sunday

GOPHERS BACK ON THE ROADÂ Â Â
Minnesota is back on the road Sunday when the Golden Gophers take on No. 16 Purdue. Sunday's match against the Boilermakers is set for a 12 p.m., CT start in West Lafayette, Ind.Â

ABOUT PURDUEÂ Â
Purdue enters the Minnesota match with a 15-5 overall record and 7-4 in Big Ten play. Like Minnesota, Purdue played on Wednesday night, and earned a 3-0 sweep over Indiana, also in West Lafayette.  The Minnesota match marks the fourth-straight home game for the Boilermakers, as they won the previous three over Iowa (3-1), Nebraska (3-2) and Indiana (3-0). Caitlyn Newton and Grace Cleveland lead the offensive charge for  Purdue with 257 and 256 kills, respectively. Hayley Bush has 825 assists, while Jena Otec leads the team with 306 digs. As a team, the Boilermakers are hitting .240, average 2.82 blocks per set and 13.97 digs per set.Â
ALL-TIME SERIES
Minnesota is 53-31 against the Purdue Boilermakers, dating back to 1975. Minnesota has won its last two meetings against Purdue, once earlier this year, and again in 2018, both in 3-0. However, the last time the Gophers visited to West Lafayette, Ind., they fell in four during the 2017 season. Â
ON THE DOCKETÂ Â Â
The Gophers stay on the road the following week when it travels to Maryland and Ohio State, Nov. 8 and 10. Both matches will be streamed on BTN +.Â
LAST MATCH RECAPÂ Â
Trailing, 2-1, Minnesota came back to defeat Ohio State in five sets, Wednesday at Maturi Pavilion. Minnesota won the first set, 25-19, fell in the second and third, 19-25, 22-25, but came back and won the fourth 25-10, and the fifth, 17-15.Â
   Stephanie Samedy led the Gophers with 18 kills. She also had 14 digs to complete the double-double and seven blocks. Alexis Hart offered up 15 kills, hit .371, had two digs and one block. Adanna Rollins had 12 kills and 11 digs. Airi Miyabe had a season-best eight kills, and hit .438. She also had three blocks and one dig. Regan Pittman offered up nine blocks for the Gophers as well as five kills, two digs and one ace. Ellie Husemann posted a season-best eight blocks. Bayley McMenimen had 27 assists, 13 digs, two blocks and one ace. Tamara Dolonga tallied a season-best 14 assists, as well as two digs for the Gophers. CC McGraw tied a match-best 22 digs and three aces. Minnesota had 13 of its 15 student-athletes see action in the win.
   As a team, Minnesota had 63 kills, 76 digs, 17 blocks and hit .253. Ohio State had 62 kills, 78 digs, nine blocks and hit .160.Â
EARLIER THIS YEAR VS. PURDUEÂ Â Â
Minnesota earned a 3-0 win (25-19, 25-21, 25-23) over Purdue, on Sept. 28, at Maturi Pavilion. Stephanie Samedy had 21 kills in 52 attempts, had 11 digs for the double-double and added three aces. CC McGraw had 24 digs. Alexis Hart added nine kills in 22 attempts to hit for .318. Regan Pittman had 10 kills in 23 attempts and added three digs. Making her first collegiate start, Bayley McMenimen had 45 assists and added the double-double with 12 digs.
PITTMAN GARNERS B1G WEEKLY AWARDÂ Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
Regan Pittman was named the Big Ten's Defensive Player of the Week after her stellar performance at Michigan and Michigan State last weekend. It marks the second award this season for Pittman and the team's ninth honor this year.Â
   Pittman, a 6-foot, 5-inch middle blocker, posted career-highs in both matches last weekend in a pair of wins at Michigan and Michigan State. On Friday against the Wolverines, she tallied a career-best 11 blocks when she had one solo and 10 block assists. She also provided 10 kills, two aces, three assists and four digs. Against MSU yesterday, Pittman added a career-best 19 kills when she hit .484, added a career-best three aces, and five blocks. On the weekend, Pittman posted 16 blocks (averaging 1.78), 29 kills, five aces and hit .426.Â
RPI LISTED BY NCAA
The Gophers are ranked ninth in the latest RPI, announced by the NCAA. Baylor, Texas and Wisconsin round out the top three.Â
GOPHERS RANKED SIXTH IN AVCA POLLÂ Â Â
Minnesota is ranked No. 6 in this week's poll, announced Monday by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. In all, six Big Ten Conference teams are ranked in the preseason top 25. Wisconsin holds the Big Ten's top spot at No. 4, followed by Minnesota, Penn State (7), Nebraska (8), Purdue (16) and Illinois (19). Michigan is receiving votes.Â
GOPHERS ALUMNAE ON THE INTERNATIONAL SCENEÂ Â Â
The Gophers have seven competing in professional indoor volleyball this season. Hannah Tapp is competing with Hitachi Rivale in the Japan V-League this winter. Samantha Seliger-Swenson is playing for Beziers in the French League. Tori Dixon is playing for Beijing Auto in the Chinese Super League this winter. Sarah Wilhite Parsons is competing for Sesi Bauru in the Brazilian Superliga. Lauren Gibbemeyer is back with her 2018 team, Eczacıbaşı VitrA in Istanbul, Turkey. Erica Handley is playing in the Czech Republic this season with VK UP Olomouc. Daly Santana is back after recovering from a knee injury and is competeing with Bisonte in Italy. Rollins traveled to Italy to compete in the World University Games.
