The Gopher men's gymnastics program announced the signing of Evan Ng to the 2020-21 signing class on Wednesday.

Ng, a Chicago, Ill. native, currently competes for the Lakeshore Academy of Artistic Gymnastics and is a senior at Lincoln Park High School. He competes in Region 5 as an all-arounder and is a five-time JO national qualifier.

"The minute we started recruiting Evan Ng, we knew we wanted this young man as a part of our program," head coach Mike Burns said. "An awesome gymnast, a gifted student, but more importantly, a fabulous young man."

At the 2019 National Qualifier, Ng finished eighth all-around in the junior division and placed second on pommel horse. He competed alongside Crew Bold at the event, current Gophers freshman.

Evan was the 2019 Region 5 all-around champion with a final score of 81.050. He was also the regional champion on rings and high bar with scores of 14.200 and 12.850, respectively and placed second on vault (14.650) and parallel bars (13.600).

Ng also had the opportunity to compete with Region 5 in Italy over the summer in a meet with Region 8 and the Italian National Team, with Region 5 bringing home the gold.

"Evan is the kind of recruit that not only helps your team by being able to put points on the board, but he brings something much more important with him," Burns said. "He brings a high standard as a person who will be able to uphold the culture that defines our program. Our program, our athletic department, our university and our state will be better off once Evan steps foot on campus."
