Gophers Serve Up 15 Aces in Rutgers Sweep

The No. 8 University of Minnesota volleyball team earned a 3-0 win, tonight, over Rutgers in New Brunswick, N.J. The Golden Gophers won, 25-14, 25-15, 25-22 to improve to 22-5 overall and 16-3 in Big Ten play.

As a team, Minnesota had 15 aces, hit .382 as a team and had 30 digs. Rutgers hit .238, had 36 kills nad 24 digs.  

Airi Miyabe led the Gophers with 13 kills and hit .524. She also had two aces, two blocks and two digs. Adanna Rollins hit .389 when she had eight kills in 18 attempts. Regan Pittman had six kills, hit .667 and added a team-best six aces. She also added a team-best three blocks. CC McGraw had a match-best 12 digs and posted two aces. Kylie Miller added a team-best 33 assists.

Notable
Minnesota had a season-best 15 aces. It surpasses its previous best of 11, set earlier this year against Michigan State. It also marked the most aces in a match for the Gophers since 2014 when the team had 14. 

Up Next
Minnesota plays at No. 7 Penn State tomorrow night. Match begins at 7 p.m. CT, and will be televised on Big Ten Network.

How they won the set:
First Set: Minnesota hit .350 and limited Rutgers to .125 to win the first set. Minnesota went up 10 when Pittman added three-straight aces for a 20-10 lead and took a 1-0 lead off a Rutgers attack error.
Second Set: Minnesota hit .381 in the second set and added another five aces, including three by Pittman for a 25-15 set win.
Third Set: Tied at 21-21, Minnesota closed out the set with three kills and a Rutgers attack error for a 25-22 set win. The Gophers hit .389 in the set for the win.
