Gophers Finish Regular Season with a Road Win

The No. 8 University of Minnesota volleyball finished the regular season strong with a four-set win over No. 7 Penn State, tonight in University Park, Pa. After losing the first set, the Gophers won the next three to clinch the win, 19-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-23.
This marks the first time the Golden Gophers defeated Penn State in University Park since 2004. Minnesota ends the regular season with a 23-5 overall record, and tied for second in the Big Ten with a 17-3 league record. Penn State drops to 24-5 overall, and 17-3 in conference play.
Stephanie Samedy led the Gophers with 21 kills, hitting .475. She also had 12 digs, one block and one ace. She was followed by Alexis Hart who had 12 kills, five blocks and three digs. Adanna Rollins added 11 kills, seven digs and three blocks. Taylor Morgan offered up seven kills, six blocks and four digs. Regan Pittman had a team-best seven blocks, as well as six kills, two digs and one ace. Kylie Miller had 49 assists, 10 digs, five blocks and one ace. CC McGraw had 11 digs, and Rachel Kilkelly added eight digs and two aces for the Gophers.
As a team, Minnesota had 57 kills, 57 digs, 13.5 blocks and hit .284. Penn State had 60 kills, 57 digs, 9.5 blocks and hit .250.

The NCAA will announce its field of 64 for the NCAA Championship on Sunday Dec. 1. The announcement will be held at 7:30 p.m., CT and televised on ESPNU. The field of 64 will start play on Dec. 6-7 for the NCAA First and Second Rounds. Should the Gophers be selected to host, the matches will be held at Maturi Pavilion.
How They Won The Set:
First Set: Penn State opened the match with a 25-19 win as the Nittany Lions hit .438 to Minnesota's .286. Tied at 10-10, PSU took a 13-10 lead and led for the remainder of the set.
Second Set: Tied at 7-7, PSU went on a 4-0 run and took an 11-7 lead. Minnesota, however, responded and tied the set at 16-16 off a Miller ace and took an 18-16 lead off a Kilkelly ace. The Gophers finished off the set 6-2 run for the set win, 25-20.
Third Set: Despite a 7-3 PSU lead, Minnesota tied up the set at 12-12. The two teams tied again at 16-16, but Minnesota built a 23-19 lead off a Samedy ace. Pittman later gave the Gophers a 2-1 match lead when she capitalized on kills for the 24-20 and set point.
Fourth Set: The Gophers hit .325 in the fourth and final set for a 25-23 win. Minnesota went up 12-7 off a Morgan/Miller block as PSU called a timeout. The Gophers were up, 17-12, but PSU responded and tied the set at 19-19. Tied at 23-23, Samedy added a kill and the Gophers solidified the win with a block from Hart and Pittman.
