Gophers Help USA Past Canada

The U.S. Women's National Team went two-for-two in the opening two games of the Rivalry Series with Canada.
MINNEAPOLIS -- Five Golden Gopher alumnae helped the U.S. Women's National Team go two-for-two in the opening two games of the Rivalry Series with Canada's National Women's Team as the Red, White, and Blue won game one by a score of 4-1 on Saturday in Hartford, Conn., before taking game two, 2-1, on Tuesday night in Moncton, New Brunswick.
Megan Bozek, Dani Cameranesi, Amanda Kessel (1g-2a), Kelly Pannek (3a), and Lee Stecklein (1a) represented the U.S. against its rival in the opening two games of this year's Rivalry Series.
Along with the five players, Minnesota associate head coach Joel Johnson is an assistant coach for the U.S. Women's National Team in the Rivalry Series while Minnesota equipment manager Brent Proulx and Minnesota strength and conditioning coach Cal Dietz are also on staff for the U.S. team.
Game One: Team USA 4, Team Canada 1
Kessel scored the eventual game-winner on the power play off a feed from Pannek, giving the U.S. the 2-1 lead in the final two minutes of the second period of game one before the Red, White, and Blue added two goals in the third period to seal the 4-1 win. Kessel (1g-1a), and Pannek (2a), and Stecklein (1a) tallied points while Bozek was tied for the lead among all players with a game-high five shots on goal and Cameranesi posted two shots on goal.
Game Two: Team USA 2, Team Canada 1
Pannek and Kessel picked up assists on the eventual game-winning goal, which put the U.S. up 2-0 in the opening period. Canada scored its lone goal in the second frame, but the U.S. skated to the 2-1 victory.

The 2019-20 Rivalry Series continues with three more games, set for Feb. 3 in Victoria, British Columbia; Feb. 5 in Vancouver; and Feb. 8 in Anaheim, California.
