Gophers Earn USTFCCCA Academic Honors

Four Gophers earned individual accolades while the men's and women's teams both secured team academic honors.

MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota men's and women's cross country programs were honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as 2018 NCAA Division I Cross Country All-Academic Teams while four Golden Gophers were named NCAA Division I All-Academic Individuals, the USTFCCCA announced today.

The Maroon & Gold men and women were among the best in the nation as the women posted a 3.59 grade point average as a team and the men earning All-Academic Team honors with a 3.35 grade point average.

Individually, Bethany Hasz and Megan Hasz each earned their third NCAA Division I All-Academic Individual nod for the women's team while Alec Basten and Evan Ferlic earned the first awards of their careers for the Gopher men.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, a team must have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better. Meanwhile, individual honorees must have compiled a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and have finished in the top 25 finishers (or 10 percent) at regionals or as an All-American at the national meet.
