Gophers Honor Seniors at Snowshoe Open

MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota and the Gopher Track & Field program saluted four men's seniors over the weekend during the Snowshoe Open at the University of Minnesota Fieldhouse.
Join us in celebrating the careers of Obsa Ali, Matt Rosen, James Travis and Eric Walker.
Obsa Ali
A native of Richfield, Minn., Ali capped off the 2017-18 campaign with a national championship, a Big Ten championship and two school records. A two-time All-American, a five-time All-Big Ten selection and a three-time NCAA All-Region honoree, Ali ran the fastest 3,000 meter steeplechase in the NCAA last year to win the national title at 8:32.23 after setting the school 10,000 meter cross country record at 29:23.06 earlier in the year. The business and marketing education and human resources double major also ran the third fastest outdoor 5,000 meter in school history last year at 13:43.13. This year, he's already ran the second fastest indoor 5,000 meters in school history at 13:38.41 as well as the fourth fastest 3,000 meters ever at Minnesota at 7:54.92.
Matthew Rosen
A native of Bloomington, Minn., Rosen holds personal records of 50.14 in the 400 meters, 1:20.21 in the 600 meters, 1:50.55 in the 800 meters and 4:39.37 in the mile. He enters the weekend with six career victories and was named a team captain for the Maroon & Gold earlier this year. A three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, Rosen is double majoring in finance and public and nonprofit management.
James Travis
A native of Naperville, Ill., Travis earned his degree in 2018 from the University of Minnesota in civil engineering and is currently pursuing a master's degree in the discipline. With personal records of 6.73 meters (22-01 feet) in the long jump and 14.63 meters (48-00 feet) in the triple jump, Travis has 11 career wins.
Eric Walker
A native of Chicago, Ill., Walker has earned 14 career wins in his career with the Maroon & Gold including last year's 60-meter hurdle at the Snowshoe Open. Last year, he ran the third fastest 60-meter hurdles in University of Minnesota history at 7.99 while he also has personal records of 14.36 in the 110-meter hurdles and 7.25 in the 60-meter dash. A two-time academic all-big ten selection, Walker is majoring in business and marketing education here at the 'U'.
