Minnesota center Daniel Oturu claimed his second Big Ten Freshman of the Week award on Monday, the conference announced. Oturu, who previously won the award on December 24, averaged a double-double in the Gophers' two games last week.

On Thursday against Michigan, Oturu matched a team-high with 18 points and added 12 rebounds, the latter matching his best total this season. Three days later, Oturu led the Gophers with eight rebounds while adding 20 points, tying his career high. Oturu also blocked two shots and swiped a steal against the Scarlet Knights.

For the season, the Woodbury, Minn., native leads all Big Ten freshmen in rebounds (7.3) and blocks (1.5) while ranking seventh in scoring (11.4), the latter third among all Gophers.

His honor is the second straight for the Gophers, after senior Jordan Murphy was recognized as the Big Ten Player of the Week a week ago.

Oturu and the Gophers return to action on Thursday, traveling to Northwestern for an 8:00 p.m. tip in the lone meeting between the two schools this regular season.
