The Minnesota women's gymnastics team is hitting the road to take on Nebraska this Saturday, Feb. 9 in the fourth of five consecutive Big Ten dual meets. The action kicks off from Bob Devaney Sports Center at 5:00 p.m. CT with television coverage provided by ESPNU as the No. 18 Gophers look to take down the No.16 Cornhuskers and remain undefeated in conference competition.
The Maroon and Gold continue to move up in the weekly national poll, jumping three spots this week from No. 21 to No. 18. The Gophers are eighth in the nation on the uneven bars (ave. score of 49.170) and clock in at No. 20 on both vault (ave. score of 48.925) and the balance beam (ave. score of 48.815).
Last week against Michigan State the Gophers recorded a team score of 196.725 and posted team event scores of 49.000 or higher on all four events for the first time this season. The Minnesota floor lineup notched a season-high 49.275 as Paige Williams led the team with her event-winning score of 9.900. The beam team only counted scores of 9.800 or higher, and Lexy Ramler was awarded the highest score of the night when the judges gave her beam routine a 9.950 for the third meet in a row.
Ramler was named the Big Ten Gymnast of the Week for the fourth consecutive week after she won the all-around title for the fifth straight competition. She tallied a score of 39.600 after receiving a 9.850 on vault, a 9.925 on bars, a 9.950 on beam and a 9.875 on floor. Ramler ranks ninth as an individual in the all-around with her average score of 39.535. She also claims the third-best average score (9.935) on the balance beam and the thirteenth-best average score (9.890) on the uneven bars.
The Cornhuskers enter the weekend coming off a 196.500-195.700 loss to No. 10 Michigan, who hopes to defend their title as reigning Big Ten Champions. Nebraska had an especially strong vault rotation as Sienna Crouse earned a 9.950 and Adnerys De Jesus tabbed a 9.925 to help Nebraska to a 49.375 team score for the event. Crouse also posted Nebraska's highest all-around score for the meet, a 39.375.
The Gophers will return home to Maturi Pavilion where they will host Maryland on Friday, Feb. 15 with television coverage provided by BTN. It will be Cancer Awareness Night/Always Dreaming Meet and Love Your Melon ticket packages are available here.
