Six Gophers Named to USA Roster

Kelly Pannek and five Gopher alumnae are among those named to the U.S. Women's National Team Roster for the 2019 IIHF Women's World Championship.
MINNEAPOLIS -- Redshirt senior Kelly Pannek and five University of Minnesota alumnae are among those named to the U.S. Women's National Team Roster for the 2019 IIHF Women's World Championship, which will be held April 4-14 in Espoo, Finland, USA Hockey announced Friday.
Pannek joins Lee Stecklein, Megan Bozek, Hannah Brandt, Dani Cameranesi, and Amanda Kessel in representing the Red, White, and Blue on this year's world championship team.
Brandt, Cameranesi, Kessel, Pannek, and Stecklein are among 14 Team USA Olympians who helped the U.S. claim gold at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang. Bozek returns to the world championship roster as a 2014 Olympic silver medalist as well.
Fourteen members of the U.S. team that claimed gold at the 2017 IIHF Women's World Championship in Plymouth, Mich., return to defend the title this year in Espoo, including Stecklein, Bozek, Pannek, Brandt, and Kessel.
The 23 players on this year's U.S. Women's National Team roster represent nine different states. Minnesota leads the way with seven representatives followed by Illinois, Massachusetts and Wisconsin with three apiece. California and New York each have two representatives, while Connecticut, Idaho and Michigan all have one.
USA Hockey also announced the full staff that will support the U.S. Women's National Team in the lead-up and during the 2019 tournament, and University of Minnesota associate head coach Joel Johnson will serve as an assistant coach for the U.S. at the tournament.
All games at the 2019 IIHF Women's World Championship will be broadcast live in the U.S. on NHL Network.
The U.S. has won the last four IIHF Women's World Championships and captured the top prize a total of eight times (2005, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017), including seven of the last eight tournaments.
