MINNEAPOLIS -- As part of its 20-year anniversary celebration during the 2018-19 season, the Women's League of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) unveiled a 20-member 20th Anniversary Team that included seven Golden Gopher alumnae. Members of the 20th Anniversary Team dropped the puck prior to Sunday's WCHA Final Faceoff championship game and signed autographs during intermission.

Gophers Hannah Brandt, Dani Cameranesi, Natalie Darwitz, Amanda Kessel, Gigi Marvin, Noora Räty, and Krissy Wendell were honored on the WCHA 20th Anniversary Team.

The WCHA 20th Anniversary Team was determined by 1/3 fan vote, 1/3 WCHA alumnae vote, and 1/3 Committee vote (consisting of two WCHA Office staff, one former head coach, two current head coaches, and three alumnae). The 20 players were revealed over 20 weeks during the regular season.

"Everyone associated with the WCHA has been privileged to have some of the finest hockey players ever lace up their skates in our league," said WCHA Vice President and Women's League Commissioner Katie Million. "We also enjoy the honor of a truly passionate fan base."

Fans of the premier conference in women's college hockey were invited to participate in a fan vote to choose their 20 favorite players from a list of 41 finalists, which included, among many accolades: Olympians, Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award winners, All-Americans, national champions, and All-WCHA selections. The 41 finalists were selected by the WCHA 20th Anniversary Team Committee from an initial list of 120 nominations, submitted by each of the WCHA's eight all-time member institutions. To be nominated, a player (forward, defenseman or goaltender) must have completed her collegiate eligibility at a WCHA institution. Nominees did not have to play a full four seasons in the WCHA; however, current student-athletes were not eligible.
