Paige Williams and Lexy Ramler have been named Event Specialist and Gymnast of the Week by the Big Ten in response to their outstanding performances against Pittsburgh this past Saturday at Maturi Pavilion. Both gymnasts were crucial contributors to Minnesota's record-setting victory over the Panthers (197.500-193.400) during which the Gophers earned the second-highest team score in program history.
Together, the two Minnesota gymnasts combined to win every event title of the night as Ramler took first place on the uneven bars, balance beam and the all-around competition while Williams notched event wins on both vault and floor.Â
Ramler earns her sixth Gymnast of the Week honor so far this season after winning the all-around competition with a career-high score of 39.650. She shares this week's honor with Co-Gymnast of the Week Olivia Karas (Michigan).
The St. Michael, Minn. native posted a new career-high score on beam as she earned a 9.975 for her performance and finished first in the event. She was awarded a 9.950 on the uneven bars to win that title as well. After this weekend's performances, Ramler is ranked No. 7 in the NCAA in the all-around, No. 15 on vault, No. 15 on the uneven bars and No. 3 on the balance beam.
Williams has been chosen at the Event Specialist of the Week for the first time this season after taking first place in both the events she competed this past weekend. She took the top spot on vault after earning a career-high score of 9.900 for her Yurchenko full. Her event title on floor followed her 9.925-earning performance. Williams is ranked in the Top 50 in the NCAA on both events, maintaining 49th in the nation on vault and moving up to 32nd on floor exercise.
The Gophers will be back in action this Friday, Mar. 8 at 6:30 p.m. CT as they take on Michigan State, Georgia and Arkansas at a quad meet in Birmingham, Ala. hosted by Elevate The Stage.Â
