Minnesota Moves Back to the Winning Column Against Drake

The Golden Gophers produced their fourth shutout victory of the year over the Bulldogs
The University of Minnesota women's tennis team found themselves back in the winning column with a dominating 7-0 shutout victory over the Drake Bulldogs in the first match of their Saturday doubleheader. The win over Drake moves the Gophers to a 6-6 record on the season and snaps their five match losing streak. Additionally, the Gophers produced their fourth shutout victory of the season with this win.
Doubles
All three matches stayed tight until a late surge by the Maroon and Gold. Courts 1 and 3 made the difference for the Gophers with 6-3 and 6-4 wins respectively. Camila Vargas stayed put in the lineup alongside senior, Bita Mancera to push the Golden Gophers up early followed by Cammy Frei and Caitlyn Merzbacher clinching the doubles point out of the top position.
Singles
The Gophers cleaned things up across singles play and clinched the shutout victory over the Bulldogs. Mancera moved her season record to 9-2, good for a team best, with a quick 6-1, 6-0 victory out of the No. 3 position. Additionally, Tina Kreinis found herself back to her winning ways out of the top spot with a 6-0, 7-5 win highlighted by a strong comeback in the second set against Petushkova. Unlike previous matches, the Gophers did not allow any third sets on the day.

Saturday's action will continue with another match wrapping up the afternoon at 2:30pm CT against Iowa State. The Gophers look to stay unscathed on home court against the Cyclones with a current 5-0 home record on the year.
