Gophers in the Pros: April 2019 Update

The Gopher Baseball team continues to produce talent achieving success at the next level. Minnesota currently has nine alumni serving time in Major League Baseball organizations.
In their history, the Maroon & Gold boast 130 draft picks dating back to 1966. Minnesota has seen 36 alumni reach the Major Leagues including two MLB Hall of Famers in Dave Winfield ('73) and Paul Molitor ('77). Here are the Gophers currently competing in the minor leagues
Austin Athmann – MiLB.com
Austin Athmann ('16) returned to Detroit Tigers Advanced-A affiliate Lakeland after playing 76 games for the Flying Tigers last season. He's currently 5-for-15 with two doubles in four games.
Micah Coffey – MiLB.com
Micah Coffey ('18) returns to Chicago White Sox organization for a second season. He is currently participating in extended spring training.
Lucas Gilbreath – MiLB.com
Lucas Gilbreath ('17) advanced to High-A with the Colorado Rockies. He's made one start this season for Lancaster, tossing 5.0 innings with six strikeouts for the JetHawks.
Brian Glowicki – MiLB.com
Spotted around campus training with the current Gophers in the preseason, Brian Glowicki ('17) also moved up to High-A with the Chicago Cubs. he's made three appearances for Myrtle Beach this season, throwing 5.2 innings to the tune of a 6.35 ERA with six strikeouts.
Ben Meyer – MiLB.com
One of two former Gophers to crack the big leagues in 2018, Ben Meyer ('15) started his season with Miami Marlins AAA affiliate New Orleans. His first start did not go as planned suffering the defeat for the Babycakes, but he did strike out eight batters in 4.1 innings.
Jackson Rose – MiLB.com
Jackson Rose ('18) returns to the Miami Marlins organization for a second season. He is currently participating in extended spring training.
Dalton Sawyer – MiLB.com
Dalton Sawyer ('16) continues his rehab returning from Tommy John Surgery in the Oakland A's farm system.
D.J. Snelten – MiLB.com
Former San Francisco Giant DJ Snelten ('13) is a free agent looking for a team.
Terrin Vavra – MiLB.com
Terrin Vavra ('18) has absolutely torn up A-ball in the Rockies organization in 2019. In eight games for the Asheville Tourists this season, Vavra is hitting .400 (12-for-30) with four doubles, a grand slam home run, seven RBIs, and seven runs scored.
Tom Windle – MiLB.com
Tom Windle ('13) projects as the next Gopher to reach the Major Leagues with the Philadelphia Phillies. In three appearances with AAA Lehigh Valley this season, Windle has not allowed a run in 2.2 innings.
As noted earlier this week, Jordan Jess and Dan Motl signed on to compete with the St. Paul Saints this season.
Single-game tickets remain available for all Siebert Field home games. Tickets for Minnesota's Saturday, April 20 home game against Oklahoma at Target Field will be available for purchase at the box office on day of game. Gopher season ticket holders and students will receive free admission for the Big Ten-Big 12 showdown.
