GopherSports.com caught up with a few of the gymnasts on the University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team to give fans a chance to get to know the personalities behind the incredible student-athletes who Love The Battle every day as they train at the U, continuing this week with junior Ivy Lu.

The Montreal, Quebec native has competed as an event specialist on the uneven bars and balance beam during her time as a Gophers gymnast. She is the school-record holder on both events, having earned a perfect 10 on beam back in 2018 and scoring a 9.975 on uneven bars four different times over the course of her career at Minnesota.

During her time representing the Gophers, she has contributed to 4 of the top 5 uneven bars scores (49.525, 49.475, 49.450, 49.425) and 2 of the top 5 balance beam scores in program history (49.375, 49.325). In addition, she contributed to the team's posting of the second-highest team score in program history (197.500) earlier this season.

Lu and the Gophers will look to improve upon this season's incredible success when they return to the competition floor in 2020.
GS: "What is one thing on your bucket list?"
IL: "Travelling to Korean and Japan."

GS: "What is your favorite gymnastics moment, either in your own career or in your time as a gymnastics fan?"
IL: "Sticking my bars dismount at competitions."

GS: "Who is your favorite Gophers athlete and why?"
IL: "Muyu Wu (Women's Golf Team) because she is an amazing student-athlete and one of my closest friends."

GS: "What would you like to do after you graduate? What are your career goals?"
IL: "Once I graduate, I want to find an internship or a job in the sports industry. My career goals are to work for one of the Olympic Committees."

GS: "To where would you most like to travel and why?"
IL: "Switzerland because the International Olympic Committee Headquarters are in Lausanne."

GS: "If you could have one superpower, what would it be?"
IL: "The ability to speak at least 10 languages.

GS: "What do you love about competing on bars & beam and what are the biggest challenges of the events?"
IL: "I love competing on bars and beam because they are such dynamic and fun events to perform on. The biggest challenge on those events would be to stay calm and relaxed in competitions."

GS: "Tell us a bit about your experiences as an Elite gymnast? How did that level of competition differ from collegiate gymnastics?"
IL: "It was extremely challenging at times, but all the hard work and efforts were so rewarding and worth it. The level of competition in Elite is different since you compete for yourself whereas in collegiate gymnastics, it is not just about yourself, it is about competing for the team."

GS: "What has been your biggest setback as an athlete/gymnast and how did you move past it?"
IL: "One of my biggest setback as a gymnast was probably asking myself at many times if continuing this sport was worth it. I have been injured many times as an Elite gymnast and have a lot of mental blocks. What kept me going was the thought of competing for a University and that pushed me to keep fighting for that goal."

GS: "Who would you say is your best bud on the team?"
IL: "Becca Taylor."

GS: "What does Loving The Battle mean to you?"
IL: "It means to keep fighting and pushing in order to achieve my goals."

GS: "Who in the gymnastics world do you admire most and why?"
IL: "My two favorite gymnasts of all time are Peng-Peng Lee and Kyla Ross."

GS: "Do you have any plans for this summer other than training?"
IL: "I will be starting Grad School this summer as well as travel to Korea and China in August."

GS: "If you weren't a gymnast, what sport would you compete and why?"
IL: "I would most probably be a golfer because I love to play golf with my dad in the summer."

GS: "What would you like Gopher fans to know about you that they could never find out just by
watching you compete?"
IL: "That I'm a pretty decent dancer and have a very funny personality outside of gym."
