Gophers Post Strong Showing on Day One at Big Tens

MAINEVILLE, Ohio - Despite less than ideal weather conditions, the Minnesota women's golf team scored well in the first round of the Big Ten Championships Friday at TPC River's Bend.
Through the opening 18 holes, the Gophers are seventh as a team with a score of 299, just eight strokes behind the leader Illinois.
A trio of sophomores led the way for the Gophers on Friday, as Grace Kellar is tied for seventh place after a 1-over par 73 in the opening round. One stroke back, classmates Kate Lillie and Jessica Lee are tied for 14th place at 2-over par 74.
Senior Muyu Wu is tied for 48th at 6-over par 78, with freshman Karen Zhang one stroke back in a tie for 54th. Sophomore Joanne Free is tied for 81st at 13-over par.
Three players in Purdue's Melati Putri, Illinois's Kornkamol Sukaree and Indiana's Kari Bellville share the individual lead at 1-under par 71.
Saturday's second round is scheduled to begin with tee times at 9:30 a.m. ET.
