MAINEVILLE, Ohio - In a weather-shortened tournament that concluded Sunday at TPC River's Bend, the Minnesota women's golf team placed 10th at the Big Ten Championships.
With Saturday's second round canceled, the teams played the final round Sunday where the Gophers (299-294—593) shaved five strokes off their team score using the play-six, count-four format. Using the non-counter format for Golfstat rankings, the Gophers finished with a team score of 598 (304-294).
Sophomore Kate Lillie led the way, posting her second straight 2-over par round to finish in a tie for 24th place (74-74—148). One stroke behind was classmate Grace Kellar, as she tied for 33rd place (73-76—149).
The closely clustered Gopher lineup continued with senior Muyu Wu, who tied for 38th place at 6-over par (78-72—150). Joining her with an even-par round on Sunday was freshman Karen Zhang (79-72—151), who was one stroke back in a tie for 42nd place.
Sophomore Jessica Lee tied for 61st place at 10-over par (74-80—154), while sophomore Joanne Free tied for 78th place (85-77—162).
Ohio State earned the Big Ten title at 1-under par (294-281—575), while Illinois and Purdue had the lowest team score in the non-counter format at 578. Purdue's Melati Putri (71-67—138) and Ohio State's Nikolette Schroeder (72-66—138) shared medalist honors at 6-under par.
